UNDP-UNEP Poverty- Environment Initiative • Mo. U signed between UNDP and UNEP in 2005 to enhance collaboration in areas of common interest (3 areas: climate change, poverty and environment initiatives and other environmental endeavors). • PEI brings together the environmental capacity and networks of UNEP with the UNDP’s expertise and capacity to support country-led processes via its CO presence. • Partnerships with Ministries of Environment, Ministries of Planning and Development and Ministries of Finance. • There are significant opportunities to link PEI with the MDG Achievement Fund, to help countries accelerate progress towards the MDGs. • PEI is working within the wider context of One UN pilots and UNDAF processes

UNDP-UNEP Poverty- Environment Initiative PEI: Regions and Countries Latin America v. Joint UNDP-UNEP team based in Panama v. Regional PEI programme launched in May 2008. Europe/CIS v. Joint UNDP-UNEP team based in Geneva/Bratislava v. Regional PEI programme launched in June 2008. Experience in country PEI programmes has led to key lessons learned, created model for mainstreaming environment into development processes
