Aims of the session To support delegates in their understanding of national standards by: v sharing best practice v reviewing Unit Assessment Support Packs (USAPs) v discussing the USAPs and associated assessment standards with colleagues v asking questions and seeking clarification about national standards
Rationale Skills for Work courses are designed to help candidates develop: v v v skills and knowledge in a broad vocational area core skills an understanding of the workplace positive attitudes to learning skills and attitudes for employability A key feature of these courses is the emphasis on experiential learning, learning through practical experience and by reflecting on that experience.
Good practice – Internal Assessment report Administration and application of awards v integration of assessments v in-house devised learning materials v candidate logbooks recording everyday activities v photographic evidence and brightly coloured story boards displayed, reminding pupils of their learning journey Strong industry links and partnership arrangements v experience of working in realistic working environments at colleges, restaurants and hotels v wide variety of commercial and residential establishments for work experience Promotion and PR v innovative approach to running events: candidates producing marketing plans and involvement with local press to help raise the profile of the work being carried out by school pupils
