Allow your child to become involved in everyday experiences e. g cooking, gardening, washing. These are perfect opportunities t talk to you child about change, experiences and events. E. g. what will happen when the cake mixture goes in the oven? Why? www. earlybirdyeducation. com Allow children to follow simple instructions at home with adult support e. g. Cooking instructions, shopping lists, building instruction from flat packs, toy instructions. Understanding Children follow instructions involving several ideas or actions. They answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events. Encourage a wide genre of books in the home to develop their understanding of different texts. Are they able t predict different events in a wide variety of stories. When reading with your child at home ask questions about the book, who was your favourite character? why? What do you think will happen next? Try to encourage your chid understanding by exposing them to experiences they cannot necessarily find at home e. g. going to the local free museum, gardens, landmarks. These will all offer children the experiences to ask how and why questions and develop a wider, cultural understanding.
