We must escape from Mr. Taylor’s room to freedom by any means necessary. ■ As a class, we will agree on a location that will symbolize “freedom, ” or the area we have to reach to escape the school. ■ With a partner, you will determine THREE different routes to the location chosen. Record your routes on the school map provided. ■ On the back of the map, identify at least FIVE different obstacles and five different advantages you would face on all of your routes.

Freedom Quilts ■ Select THREE obstacles, and THREE advantages from your list and develop your own Freedom Quilt panes that would be hanged on your route to help guide you during your escape from school. The panes should be in a similar style to the real quilts used during the Underground Railroad, but not copied. ■ Design your quilt panes on unlined pieces of paper and color according to your code. Remember, the quilts are to be secret and not obvious to those trying to preventing you to escape, so they should not look like real pictures.
