Goals of UMI-Sci-Ed Co. Ps UMI-Sci-Ed Communities of Practice (Co. Ps): q are formed dynamically around UMI projects implemented at schools, including representatives of all necessary stakeholders. q focus on developing a fully integrated training environment for 1416 years old students based on a selection of methodological processes and UMI applications. q. Involve an open repository of educational material, training activities, a platform to support Co. Ps through socialization, educational material, entrepreneurship training, showcases, self-evaluation, mentoring, and conceptualisation of content and information management. Project: UMI-Sci-Ed | 6
Methodology of building UMI-Sci-Ed Co. Ps Project: UMI-Sci-Ed | 7
UMI-Sci-Ed Co. Ps preliminary activities Y 1 • Definition of research sample - Selection of participating schools, definition of involvement protocol (e. g. application form, ethics procedure), specification of numbers of participating students and teachers. • Composition of schedule - Specification of a work plan for the design, execution and evaluation of pilot studies with activities assigned to stakeholders taking into account local constraints (e. g. acceptable duration of a pilot study in every country) • Specification of infrastructure for developing the UMI-Sci-Ed scenarios - Design and authoring of training materials having in mind the students’ idiosyncrasies (e. g. technological and educational profile), composition of technologies employed in the pilot studies over Arduino and communities of practice. UMI-Sci-Ed: small scale pilot research Small scale pilot research (1 st pilot phase - year 2): Developing UMI-Sci-Ed scenarios using technological material and scenarios. Small scale pilot research, so as a) to enable improvement of technology and tools b) to initiate appropriate training to people involved. The involved actions include: ● Focus on knowledge, skills, attitudes ● Prepare appropriate technological material ● Establish infrastructure for communication and collaboration on Co. Ps ● Conduct small scale pilot research (1 school) ● Amendments and improvement of tools and technology ● Training process Project: UMI-Sci-Ed | 12
