‘Umar’s Sincerity ‘Umar defended all of the traditions of the Arabs with sincerity. It was this sincerity that made him such a staunch opposer of Islam; he did not want to see the society come down. The Muslims Migrate Umm ‘Abdullah was migrating to Abyssinia to escape the persecution of the Makkans. ‘Umar came to her and said, “Are you leaving, O Umm ‘Abdullah? ” She replied, “Yes, you have persecuted us and oppressed us, and by Allah we are going out in the land of Allah until Allah grants us a way out. ” ‘Umar said, “May Allah be with you. ” She said she saw kindness in him that she hadn’t seen before. When ‘Amir ibn Rabee’ah came, she told him what ‘Umar said. Amir said, “It seems that you hope ‘Umar will become Muslim. ” She said, yes. ‘Umar was then Given the Name Al-Farooq ‘Umar said to Rasul. Allah (S) after he accepted Islam: “O Messenger of Allah, are we not following the truth whether we live or die? ” The Messenger of Allah (S) said: “Yes, indeed. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, you are following the truth, whether you live or die. ” He said: “So why should we hide? By the One Who sent you with the truth, you should go out (and preach openly). ” Rasul. Allah (S) gave permission to openly preach. ‘Umar Doesn’t Keep His Migration Secret ‘Umar, being who he was, didn’t migrate in secret as everyone else did. Helping Ayyaash & Hishaam They agreed to meet at a stand of trees, but Hishaam didn’t show up. He was put to trial and succumbed. ‘Ayyaash did meet ‘Umar and make it to Madinah with him. However, once they were there, two of his cousins – Abu Jahl and Al-Haarith ibn Hishaam – came to him and told lies about ‘Ayyaash’s mother being upset about him leaving. They said she swore not to comb her hair or come into the shade until he returned. ‘Ayyaash believed them. ‘Umar feared it was a trick and tried to persuade him not to go with them – “By Allah, you know that I am one of the wealthiest men of Quraysh.
