ROCEDURE І. Introduction. Greeting and Aims. T: Good afternoon, children! I’m really glad to see you right here! How are you today? I hope you are all right and ready for the lesson. Today we are going to speak about our cuisine. I suppose this theme will be very interesting for you. ІІ. Warm-up 1. Do you like cooking? 2. What is cooking for you: an art or a dull every day duty? 3. What is your favorite food? 4. What national Ukrainian dishes do you know? 5. How often do you eat out? What’s your favorite café?
ІІ. Main part Topic talk. Work in pairs. Look at the photos (a-e) and to the description of dishes. Try to guess what kind of meal is it. Is a sour soup popular in several Eastern European cuisines. The variety most commonly associated with the name in English is of Ukrainian origin and includes beetroots as one of the main ingredients, which gives the dish a distinctive red color. Next on the list is the vinegret salad – salad of beetroot with sunflower oil and vinegar. People also add cooked and chopped potatoes, sauerkraut or pickles, onions, herbs and carrots. Breads and wheat products are also important for Ukrainians. For example, they cook traditional wedding bread called “Korovai”, which is a symbol of national hospitality. Easter cake is known as “Paska”. The recipe of paska varies from place to place, but it usually includes milk, butter, eggs, sugar and raisins.
