United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) launched on 1 January Opportunity 2017 following the requirement in the 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review to establish a single provider of government National Security Vetting Services. The Process The Person The Role It brought together the well respected vetting organisations of the Defence Business Services National Security Vetting, and Foreign and Commonwealth Services National Security Vetting. UKSV has a mandate to establish a single vetting database, portable vetting and standardised pricing across government. UKSV aims to operate as a highly efficient and customer focused organisation.

About Who are the Vetting Officers? Benefits The primary role of the Vetting Officer is to conduct vetting interviews on behalf of UKSV. The information obtained at interview provides a significant contribution towards the security assessment of the suitability of a person to have authorised access to sensitive government The Role Opportunity information and protectively marked assets. Vetting interviews are undertaken with individuals at all levels across government, the MOD, police forces, defence industry and members of the general public. These interviews may be conducted within official establishments or private homes. Our Peripatetic Vetting Officers have a unique and interesting role within UKSV. This role, whilst home-based, does require significant and frequent travel across the UK and occasionally overseas, which will necessitate overnight stays. To be part of this well-travelled team, the The Process The Person successful candidate must be able to commit being away from home one week in every three. We are strongly encouraging applications from suitable candidates who reside within the M 25 corridor.

About Benefits As a Vetting Officer, your responsibilities will include: The Process The Person The Role Opportunity The Role Description • Research and prepare effectively, whilst maintaining the co-operation and goodwill of the interviewee. • Arrange and conduct interviews in accordance with all UKSV processes and instructions. • Report on the outcome of the interview and provide a fair and unbiased assessment and recommendation in the format detailed in the UKSV instructions. • Inform relevant managers soon as possible of any problems or contentious issues arising from the interview. • Manage, organise, and maintain accurate and efficient personal administration systems in order that the case load/workload can be and managed economically within the target dates/timescales allowed. • Complete all administrative procedures as required by VO Standard Instructions. • Participate fully in quarterly area forums to share best practice. • Any other reasonable tasks allocated by line manager or countersigning officer.
About The Person Specification The Process The Person The Role Opportunity Benefits As a Vetting Officer within UK Security Vetting, we are looking for people who have the following expertise and attributes: • • Excellent investigative interviewing skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high standard of personal qualities such as tact, sensitivity and ease of establishing rapport with others, together with an understanding of life experience and diversity issues are required • An interest in and empathy with people which will elicit sensitive information that is being sought and sometimes suppressed • Excellent computer skills • Highly motivated and flexible approach • Ability to work independently • High standard of written communication skills with an eye for detail • Understanding of risk assessment including analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills • Comfortable to challenge constructively and able to work effectively at all levels in the organisation • Must be customer focussed • Able to accept, understand drive change • Team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security clearance needed is Developed Vetting. Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service nationality rules.
