UK NGI • 17 T 2 Sites and one Tier-1 at RAL • CE’s are mainly ARC-CE • Few CREAM-CE as well • Mostly DPM as storage • d. Cache, Sto. RM also in use • Tier-1 uses Castor/CEPH 16/10/2021 2

Motivation for BDII Replacement • Since December 2012 there have been discussions about replacing the BDII. • It’s too complex and doesn’t provide VOs with the information they need. • New users (e. g. DUNE, SKA) are getting their information from elsewhere • It cannot be easily extended for new services. • OSG BDII has been decommissioned since 31 / 3 / 2017. • Less efforts at site due to funding cut so it would be useful to have one less service to manage 16/10/2021 4
UK BDII Plan • UK has been involved with WLCG Information System Task Force from the very beginning • https: //twiki. cern. ch/twiki/bin/view/EGEE/WLCGISEvolution • Contributions from Alessandra Forti, Andy Mc. Nab, David Meredith (former GOCDB developer). • General consensus among UK sites are to publish static information in JSON format as described in WLCG Information task force. • Site JSON file can be updated manually or semi-automatically
Time Line • During the October WLCG Information System Evolution Task Force the json format for Computing Elements was agreed: • https: //indico. cern. ch/event/762547/ • RAL and Manchester testing new format. • Manchester is planning to publish by end of this week. • UK intend to have json at many sites by end of the year • At least 3 months running systems in parallel. • Hope to decommission BDII by mid 2019. 16/10/2021 6
Residual Issues • Some work would be needed at UK Dirac instance • Need to migrate LFC users to DIRAC File Catalogue (ongoing). • Inevitably some problems will be uncovered during the migration. • Forgotten about VO still using BDII? • How to publish several CEs if all have access to same batch resource • https: //docs. google. com/document/d/1 pg_5 Kibc_Z 4 JF 4_HJy. W 5 x. L 6 GVYKw. Xx. OU 7 DXf 2 QP 9 Ag/edit • Storage Publishing ? 16/10/2021 7
Security Implications • Main security monitoring EGI CSIRT uses relies upon Argo. • Migration to Argo ongoing. • Argo developers need to be able to understand new format. • Other things to consider: • Make sure up to date information on sites for incident response. • Need to propagate suspension information. • BDII is used to identify endpoints for security service challenges.
