Danielle Geathers and Yu Jing Chen Protecting the Magic of MIT. Leveraging Student Power.

Danielle Geathers and Yu Jing Chen Protecting the Magic of MIT. Leveraging Student Power. Lifting Every Voice. Together, we have redefined what it means to be your student government. By leveraging the full force of the UA, we have transformed the way students are valued in decision-making. We united our community through landmark events like Q-Week Challenge, MIT COVID Hack, Get Out the Vote Fest and UA Music Match, engaging thousands of students. By creating the UA Committee on COVID-19, we ensured students living on campus could safely experience a sense of normalcy through pods, secured free testing for students living off campus, and shaped decisions about grading, dining, and financial aid, integrating student voice throughout. When we embarked on this journey a year ago, we had a clear mission: to use our collective student power to define what MIT should look like. Together, we have pushed MIT forward through an ongoing pandemic, a nation-wide reckoning on anti-Black racism, domestic and global natural disasters, and surges in anti-Asian hate crimes. As women of color, we know what it’s like to feel unheard by the Institute. As off-campus students in the fall, we know what it's like to feel disconnected from the MIT community. As on-campus residents this Spring, we know what it's like to feel socially isolated, even on campus. As your President and Vice President, we have the unique preparation to meet these challenges and continue implementing policies that improve our student experience this coming fall and spring, prioritizing your wellbeing and voice. Together, we’ve raised $50, 000 for nonprofits fighting anti-Black racism. Together, we’ve organized the laying of 3, 795 candles on Kresge to raise awareness of the 3, 795+ reported hate incidents against Asian Americans this year. Together, we’ve forged platforms for student voice through the creation of the UA Diversity Council, input into Institute plans such as MIT Task Force 2021 proposals, the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Strategic Action Plan, and the Climate Action Plan, to ensure we are involved in decisions affecting our experiences. Today, we have the momentum to carry us forward. We have planted the seeds of a successful UA that works effectively to advocate for students and we hope to further nurture the growth of our student government in this upcoming year. As MIT plans to return to full operations in the fall, it is imperative that the UA is proactive in addressing key issues to ensure our student needs are met. With one year under our belt, we know how to get things done. We’ve advocated to make Indigenous Peoples Day an Institute holiday. Now, we will advocate to make Election Day an Institute holiday to encourage civic engagement. We’ve advocated for First Generation and Low Income (FLI) students in financial aid discussions and secured the COVID-era grant for all students. Now, we will continue to push for the creation of a FLI Office on campus with paid staff and space alongside FLI@MIT. We’ve supplied free menstrual products in every dorm. Now, we will ensure the presence of gender inclusive bathrooms around campus with necessary hygiene products for all. We’ve formed the Committee on COVID-19 which has transformed the impact students have on Institute decisions and our everyday experiences. Now, we will ensure that we build off the momentum in shaping the way student voice is embedded in Institute structures and processes. Let’s continue moving forward, together. Vote Danielle and Yu Jing for UA President and Vice President!

President: Temiloluwa Omitoogun Throughout my tenure as Class President, I have been passionate about making MIT a better place for the class of 2022! Some of the events that the class council and I have hosted are: • Six Flags • Freshman Formal • 2022 s Mixer with Wellesley • Class Movie Screenings for the Avengers • Ice Skating with the Class of 2021 • Class of 2022 Apparel Even in a virtual environment, I still have plans for many exciting events and hopefully even more when things return to normal! I really enjoy class council and I am always open to any ideas including how to improve our events for the future! I hope that I can continue to work in my position to make MIT an awesome experience for our class.

Ft. all the swag and lasting memories If you’re looking for events to escape to with your friends as an excuse to step away from work, or if you want to meet some new people and be inspired by them, we'll continue to design spaces that facilitate the creation of these new memories and connections. Have a wonderful day! And as always, feel free to reach out with any suggestions or just to say hello : )

Secretary: Stephanie Zhang Hi Class of 2022! My name is Stephanie Zhang, and here I am for the fourth and final time running for MIT Class of 2022 Secretary!! A little more about me: I’m from Boulder, Colorado, and my house is on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere with a lot of cows. I lived in Maseeh my freshman year, then moved into my sorority house (#sigkap #skister), and now I live in the middle of nowhere with a lot of cows. I’m a 6 -7 because I like CS and I like bio but I don’t like either enough to commit to 6 -3 or 7. I recently declared a double major in 17 which is super exciting! According to my Myers-Briggs personality test, I was a 99% extrovert when I started MIT, 94% at the end of freshman year, 76% during sophomore year, and now I'm 86%. . . don’t know what that means but the trend is broken. I’ve been secretary of our class for three years now, helping to plan events like Gobble Games, our six flags trip, freshman formal, and lots of study breaks (like canes! and boba! and movies!). I’m looking forward to planning more fun events with good free food once we are back on campus, and I wanna make sure our last year at MIT is the best it can be : ) Stay safe and healthy <3

Treasurer: Amber Zheng My name is Amber Zheng, and I would be honored if you reelected me as the treasurer for the Class of 2022 Council. After two years in this role, I know how to best fulfill the duties of this position, and if reelected I guarantee a continuation of my awesome spreadsheet making skills and efficiently allocated funding. In college, I have been the member of several exec teams and have served as treasurer of a couple of those teams. Additionally, I am currently majoring in Course 14, so dealing with money and where it goes will kind of be my entire life, and this position falls under that jurisdiction. My vision from past years has not waivered: make the class usage of money more transparent and be more open to receiving recommendations on what our class is interested in. This past COVID-filled year has not been the best time, but I hope to continue working with the council to host events that the class is passionate about and create swag that will represent how cool our class is. I am open to any and all suggestions you all might have! Thank you for considering me as your treasurer, and I hope that I can count on your vote!

Social Chairs: Ricardo Gayle Jr. and Devin Johnson • Devin Johnson and I have been social chairs for the past 3 years and have loved working with the rest of student council for the rest of the class to put on events and keep the class together. Covid-19 was an unpredictable event for everyone and it was difficult to adjust. Despite this, we have worked hard with the rest of the council to continue to prepare gear for the class and hold events like Gobble Games. – Ricardo Gayle Jr. • I wish to bring our great 4 years to a close with great fun events that bring our class together after nearly a year of being apart! Being on Class Council for the past 3 years has been a great experience and I can't wait to do one more! – Devin Johnson

President: Anna Sun Hey everyone! I’m your current 2023 Class Council President, and I’m re-running to serve again next year! This past year has been really tough, with some still scattered across the world and unable to regularly meet with friends. Assuming we are mostly back to normal in the fall, our class council is planning to make up for time we lost together in our virtual months by planning long overdue events starting from freshman formal to a trip to Six Flags. As always, we will work towards unifying, supporting, and being totally transparent with you. Most of us decided to go to MIT, not for the high grades on our transcript, but for the opportunities and people we were going to meet. We can make the most of our time here by learning about and supporting each other : )

Vice President: Christina Chen Heyo : ) It’s your friendly campus beaver, Christina Chen, and I’m running to be your 2023 Class Council Vice President! As we’re resuming back to the rhythm of as much normalcy as we can, I’m committed to helping our class seize the fun memories that were taken from us the first time around. From subsidized mixers to class field trips, I will help plan entertaining events, amplify your ideas, and carry through with the promise to make the second half of our college journey enjoyable, meaningful, and memorable.

Secretary: Bhuvna Murthy Hi! I'm Bhuvna Murthy, your current 2023 Class Council Secretary! I have very much enjoyed my position on Class Council, sending out Links Letters, planning Pod Game Delivery, the 2023 Class Puzzle Hunt (pre-COVID), and the 2023 -2024 Mixers! I look forward to working with class council to provide everyone with more fun bonding events, new merch, formals, and opportunities to meet new people. As secretary, I take transparency and communication to be very important and plan to continue to updating members about our meetings and new events. Please vote for me again. Thank you!

Treasurer: Amanda Hu Hello class of 2023! I’m Amanda and I’m so excited to

Treasurer: Amanda Hu Hello class of 2023! I’m Amanda and I’m so excited to be running to be your treasurer! As your current class council treasurer, I am in charge of keeping track of our expenses, submitting reimbursements, communicating with MIT offices, and advocating for our class budget. I developed our current budget sheets and have experience dealing with the many MIT platforms which the council uses for financial matters. I’ve had a great experience coordinating all types of social events, from small study breaks like our virtual talent show to the grilled-cheese tunnel hunt we had freshman year! Looking forward, I hope to reschedule freshman formal to junior year and continue with more class merch sales. I am also excited to execute other event ideas, such as a silent disco, class boat cruise, frog-pond ice skating, class carnival, and others! In addition to social events, I hope to collaborate with MIT offices to host career development workshops tailored for the junior class. I hope to get your input on class council and integrate new ideas into the agenda. This year we implemented a google drive, where anyone can open and read meeting notes, our budget, and event plans. I want to build on this increased transparency and include an anonymous feedback form where we can review your ideas/suggestions for fun events and ways to make the council better! I will also create a google calendar, so we can better plan ahead and the class can keep up to date on upcoming events. Especially at MIT, where we have so many unique communities and living groups, I hope to increase communication between student government and the class by making weekly meetings more accessible and creating a slack Q&A channel. So remember, w. HU are you gonna vote for? Amanda Hu, that’s who! Thank you for reading and feel free to message me on fb or instagram (@amandahu 27) to let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to an amazing year!

Social Chairs: David Lu and Sarah Chieng We really enjoyed being social chairs this year, bringing the class merch, hosting online events, and helping the 2023's and 2022's connect. We would love to serve the class for another year!

Publicity Chairs: Ashar Farooq and Mc. Kinley Polen We are Ashar Farooq and Mc. Kinley Polen. We are running to be your junior class Publicity Chairs. Our platform is based on simple yet highly important values. Accessibility: As your Publicity Chairs, we guarantee to make class events more accessible to you. This can include various methods of communication, such as the class Facebook page, Instagram page, and emails. In addition, we will continue the work of designing and composing a class website. In addition to methods such as these, we will also like to make sure that the class as a whole is aware of class events and happenings. This can be accomplished via class newsletter and a class calendar of events. Moreover, we will also continue to utilize feedback for class events as done previously. This will help inform our future class events. We will also continue the work of creating strong transparency, such as through a public Google Drive and a public Google Photos Album to share memories with the class. We will be held accountable by you through these transparent measures. Experience: Despite less than ideal circumstances, the previous class council was still able to hold events over the past year, such as the Pod Games, Mixers, Merchandise, etc. Plans for freshman formal are also on our minds. Mc. Kinley is very knowledgeable about campus and class happenings in addition to having connections with different student groups. Using this as a source of outreach and feedback, Mc. Kinley will further create a transparent and accessible sophomore year. Ashar served on the council for both freshman and sophomore year, gaining valuable experience and helping implement successful and creative initiatives and events. Given a very uncertain future, we will both continue to work hard to promote a very streamlined way to get the information and transparency you need. Passion: We are both invested in the Class of 2023 and MIT. We believe that sharing information is critical in avoiding difficulties, especially in a world of increasing dependence on social media and the global network. We will work to creatively yet simply express class information and events to you. Mc. Kinley’s favorite thing about the role is to allow for his creativity and passion to result in entertaining communication and publicity methods while maintaining clarity. Mc. Kinley hopes to provide the class with social media content to encourage communication within the class. Ashar’s favorite thing about the job over the past couple of years was that he got to interact with fellow amazing classmates and see the results of successful programs.

2024 Class Council

2024 Class Council

President: George Bian Hey 2024 s! I hope you had a great year filled

President: George Bian Hey 2024 s! I hope you had a great year filled with unforgettable memories through all the hectic times. Whether you are currently on campus, at home, or living somewhere off campus, I hope that you were able to find a second home within the special community of MIT. I've loved serving as your class president this past year and working diligently to create a fun online experience throughout the whole pandemic, whether that be through Zoom socials, class wide competitions, or care packages. Now, as we look forward to next year, the prospect of returning back to some sense of normalcy brings extreme excitement to me. We've all missed out on in -person events, and I'd be extremely excited to have a hand in bringing them back next year. In running to return as your class council president, I want to make sure that we don't lose any significant class wide events that we could look back and smile upon in the future. First and foremost, I hope to plan out Freshman Formal and make sure that it happens in our Sophomore year after the pandemic. Secondly, I plan on hosting monthly class-wide study breaks where we can all gather and socialize over free donuts, pizza, or ice cream, and I also hope to organize a class-wide trip to Six Flags next Spring. Finally, with the pandemic hopefully behind us in the next year, I hope that we as a class can forge our own new traditions: perhaps we could swim or boat across the Charles? Boston food sampler fair on campus? Class beach retreat? The possibilities are endless because you deserve the most out of college, especially after a year in COVID times. Thank you for taking the time to read through all this, and I hope you consider voting me to continue being your 2024 class council president for next year!

Vice President: Amy Hu tl; dr Amy Hu is running for re-election and will organize cool events and give free stuff if elected! Hello! I’m Amy Hu and I’m currently the class of 2024 VP. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to improve your MIT experience as a member of class council and hope to be re-elected so that I can continue to do so. This past school year, class council has: -organized social events such as game nights, mixers, and speed friending -ordered and subsidized class of ‘ 24 merch (such as hoodies and stickers) -offered food reimbursements and amazon prizes at community events -established a consistent form of feedback through google forms and insta polls and more! Currently, we are working on: -partnering with local restaurants and cafes to offer discounts for 24 s -sending care packages filled with goodies -coordinating a scavenger hunt around MIT/Cambridge/Boston to help students get to know the area better I know this semester hasn’t been ideal, but with your vote, I hope to make the next year exponentially better by: -putting together a make-up freshman formal (sophomore formal? ) -arranging for the class to see a movie premiere (postcovid) -finding more ways to get everyone free food and/or free merch offering resources for applying to internships and UROPs (especially in the fall) -communicating and collaborating with various student organizations on campus Hu are you voting for? Amy Hu!

Secretary: Helen Wang Hi, I'm Helen, and I'm running to be re-elected as your secretary on the Class of 2024 Class Council! I have greatly enjoyed getting to meet you all, and I'd love the opportunity to continue advocating for the class. This past semester, I wrote and maintained a set of meeting notes available to all class members that exhibits what Class Council accomplishes in our weekly meetings and contributed to the logistics of planning and hosting each of our events, as well as a lot of back-end organization. The goals I'm carrying over include continued transparency and accountability, and this semester I would like to further emphasize interaction between the members of Class Council and the larger student body. It should be easy to reach out to Class Council, and I want to ensure that every 2024's concerns are heard and seriously weighed. I'm excited to improve on my work based on the experiences we've gained and the connections we've formed so far, and I hope you'll support me in accomplishing these goals. I recognize that many of us (whether on or off campus) are going through difficult times as the pandemic continues, and I pledge to do everything I can for the wellbeing of the class of 2024. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions about my platform; I would be more than happy to chat -- thanks for your time!

Treasurer: Michelle Li Hi! I’m Michelle Li. Last year I was one of your publicity chairs and this upcoming year I’d love to be your treasurer! As treasurer, I would ensure our budget is public to the class to keep transparent about what we are spending our funding on. I would keep an organized list of what we have spent and ensure we don’t run a deficit. I would also take constant public feedback on what we should spend our money on. I would push for us to hear from you and put money towards events based on your interests. Finally, I would attempt to organize deals with organizations to obtain a lower price for us. For example this past year, I negotiated the prices of the class hoodies down. As we transition to a normal year, let’s work to make it a memorable one!

Social Chair: Waly Ndiaye During my current term as Social Chair, I have had the great opportunity to serve 2024 s while working with the other Class Council members to plan different events like Trivia Night, the 2024 Merch Contest/Sales, and Class Stickers. As we transition to a more 'normal' MIT experience, I hope you will give me the chance to: - Continue working on events that occur throughout the semester, such as bonding nights and game nights, and more student merch! - Continue working with other Class Council members to access/apply for more funding sources such as the Baker Foundation so that we can introduce more expensive projects!
