UA 9 Cp. FM: Cherenkov detector for proton Flux Measurement Aim: development of a detection chain that counts the number of protons of the deflected halo with a precision of about 5% in the LHC environment (for 100 incoming protons) Constraints : - inside the primary vacuum no degassing materials - very hostile radioactive environment radiation hardness readout electronics at 300 m - small place available compact radiator inside the beam pipe small footprint of the photodetector + cables …. inside the tunnel The Cp. FM: Principle: the Cherenkov light created by the interaction of protons inside the fused quartz radiators will propagate inside the bars and be detected 2 Quartz bars: one for the beam monitoring and another one for background measurements Detection performed by PMTs 10 m from the viewport (quartz fibers bundle) and readout by Wave. Catcher board (300 m away) 03/11/2014 Impedance Meeting UA 9 Cp. FM Tank Impedance Assessment 2

BBS_QUATTRO Measurements § Measurements have been carried out in transmission § The probes have been placed as far as possible from the cavity to reduce coupling. § For the first mode, the same Q measured last time (June) was reproduced (around 2500). § For the second mode, the measured Q was lower (around 1000). 03/11/2014 Impedance Meeting UA 9 Cp.
