WHAT WAS THE CONFLICT? • Iraq invaded Kuwait for Oil. • Iraq led by Sunni Muslim Saddam Hussein • The United States and their allies formed a coalition to fight Iraq.

WHY DID IT OCCUR? • Iraq wanted to gain access to the Persian Gulf • Controlling oil is power by controlling gas prices, even in the U. S • Wanted to control Kuwait’s oil wells.

HOW DID IT END? - OPERATION DESERT STORM • After 6 weeks the U. S & allies won. • Iraq left burned Kuwait’s oil fields. • UN forced Iraq to destroy Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

WHAT WAS THE CONFLICT? • U. S, Great Britain, Canada invaded Iraq. • Saddam Hussein is the leader of Iraq, and ran Iraq as a dictator.

WHY DID IT OCCUR? • U. S believed Hussein had WMDs’, • Was helping al-Qaeda (Terrorist Group) • U. S could get cheaper oil if he’s out of power.

HOW DID IT END? • Hussein was captured, tried, and executed. • No WMDS were found. • Iraq turned to a democratic government. • Sunni & Shia Muslims fighting for power.

WHAT WAS THE CONFLICT? • United States invaded Afghanistan to rid the world of terrorist group Al-Qaeda & Afghanistan government the Taliban.

WHY DID IT OCCUR? • 9/11/01 Al-Qaeda, led by Osama Bin Laden attacked the U. S • 2 airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. • 1 airplane crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. • 1 airplane was intended to hit the White House, but crashed in rural Pennsylvania. (Passengers in this plane fought the terrorist)
