U 5. 3. 5 -Explain the decision to remove Union troops in 1877 and describe its impact on Americans? • The withdrawal of federal troops from the South, appointment of at least one Southerner to Hayes's cabinet and economic benefits to industrialize the South. • The Compromise of 1877 refers to a purported informal, unwritten deal that settled the disputed 1876 U. S. Presidential election and ended Congressional ("Radical") Reconstruction.
U 5. 3. 1 -Describe the policies of the Freedmen's Bureau and restrictions placed on the rights and opportunities of freedmen, including racial segregation and Black Codes • The policies of freedman’s bureau and restrictions were initiated by president Abraham Lincoln. • The Bureau’s main role was providing emergency food housing, and medical aid to refugees. They forced the migration of 1. 2 million blacks in the internal slave trade to the deep south. • Freedman and freedwomen turned to the Bureau for assistance in resolving issues of abandonment and divorce.
U 5. 3. 1 -Explain the positions of President Abraham Lincoln and President Andrew Johnson, Republicans, and African Americans concerning the reconstruction of southern society and the nation • Andrew Johnson (Controlled the whole Reconstruction)- His tenure was controversial his positions favoring the south came under heavy political attack from the Republicans. • Republicans- The reconstruction was controlled by president Andrew Johnson and the Republicans agreed to take a less conservative platform. • African Americans- The reconstruction affected the Americans and a lot of ways. The Americans was expecting a big change in there society. The Americans was also mad because Lincoln showed no concern.
