What is persuasion? • To persuade someone is to encourage someone to do something or believe in something. • Places of interest have to persuade people to visit them. If they do not get visitors, then they don’t make money so it is important that they get people through the door. • They have to advertise to let people know about them. • They are in competition with other places of interest so they have to persuade the audience to visit them instead of the other places.

What language is used in persuasive writing? • Alliteration – Consecutive words that begin with the same sound (E. g. amazing animals) • Powerful words and phrases – Used to encourage/persuade their audience (E. g. ‘delicious’ instead of ‘tasty’, ‘once in a lifetime’ experience rather than a ‘good’ experience, ‘stunning’ views instead of ‘nice’ views) • Rhetorical questions – Makes the reader think (E. g. Have you visited our fantastic new park? Do you want to make the most of this special deal? ) • Convincing words – Making you believe in what they are saying. Turning opinions into facts. (E. g. You ‘will’ enjoy it, you ‘won’t’ find a better place than this to visit, you ‘must’ visit. ) • Lots of description – describes how wonderful these places are (E. g. You will have stunning views of the dazzling, blue sea and the golden, sandy beach. )
