My Environments I chose three environments to study: Rainforests Wetlands Deserts

Rainforests

What are Rainforests? Rainforests are forests with warm climates that receive lots of rain precipitation. Which is why they are located in the tropics. Rainforests provide shelters and food for wildlife and provide the world with more oxygen. (unique aspect) There are many types of rainforests. These include: Equatorial Rainforests Tropical Rainforests Monsoon Rainforests Mangrove The two MAIN are the Tropical and Temperate which do have many similarities.

What makes a rainforest? Rainforests can be split into different layers/sections. Different flora and fauna live in the different layers. (unique aspect) Rainforests include the following layers: Emergent Layer Canopy Under store shrub layer Forest floor

Who lives there? Rainforests are home to many types of fauna. These include : Reptiles Mammals Birds Arthropods Rainforests are home to many types of flora. Some include : Bromeliads Carnivorous Plants Strangler fig orchids lianas

Wetlands

What are wetlands? Wetlands areas of land where soil is saturated with moisture either permanently or seasonally. Some wetlands include: swamps marshes fens lakes bogs The water found in wetlands can be salt, fresh or brackish

How does a wetland work and why is it there? Wetlands are transition zones. It is the place where the flow of water, energy, sun and nutrients meet to make an ecosystem. It also provides a habitat for wildlife (see next slide). Wetlands filter and drain water and then release the clean water to small streams and rivers. (unique aspect)

Who lives in wetlands? Wetlands provide a habitat to many species of flora and fauna. They even used to home DINOSAURS! (unique aspect) Some fauna found in wetlands include: Birds Insects Reptiles fish mammals Some flora found in wetlands include: Duckweed cherry and American Plum Bottlebrush Black

Deserts

What are Deserts? Deserts are landscapes and plains covered with sand. They are practically waterless and without vegetation. Deserts are very common in Australia. Deserts cover one seventh of the earth’s surface. Deserts are extremely dry and can be considered harsh places on earth. Even though, plants and animals still call deserts home.

How is a desert formed? A desert can be formed by three different ways: 1. Inland areas lack moisture from air 2. Arid or dry regions are caused by not being near a large body of water. 3. Mountains may prevent rain from reaching areas making the areas dry and after awhile a desert. Deserts can consist of rock, sand mountains

Who Lives There? A desert can be a harsh environment. Though plants and animals can exist and live in a desert. This is because they only need a small amount of water to survive. Some plants even store their own water to survive. The following types of animals can live in a desert: Small mammals (hamsters and mice) Lager mammals (hedgehog and fox ) Insects Reptiles
