Forms of Energy Foldable Definition and Pictures Kinetic Energy Electrical Potential Energy Heat Solar Chemical

What is Mechanical Energy? o Energy of Motion o Stopping and Going o Kinetic vs. Potential The bowling ball has mechanical energy. When the ball strikes the pins, mechanical energy is transferred to the pins!

Examples of Mechanical Energy

2 types of Mechanical Energy • Kinetic energy – moving energy • Potential energy – energy based on position or composition (stored)

What is Electrical Energy? o Energy caused by the movement of electrons o Easily transported through power lines and converted into other forms of energy

What is Solar Energy? o Energy from the Sun. - All other energy forms can be traced back to the Sun.

What is Heat Energy? o Thermal energy o Vibration of atoms based on temperature. A hot object is one whose atoms and molecules are excited and show rapid movement. A cooler object's molecules and atoms will show less movement.

What is Chemical Energy? o Energy stored in the particles of matter. -The chemical bonds in a matchstick store energy that is transformed into heat energy when the match is struck. -Chemical energy is

Examples of Chemical Energy

Law of Conservation of Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed. Energy can transfer: 1)object to object 2) form to form
