BEHAVIOR This year, our classroom will use a clip chart to monitor behavior. A clip chart is a great tool that allows students to be rewarded for positive behavior, while discouraging negative behavior. Each student has a clothespin with his or her name on it. Everyone will start on green at the beginning of each day, and clips can be moved up and down throughout the day based on behavior. Students will be able to earn “prizes” when they reach “good choices” and “outstanding choices”. Comments and concerns about behavior will be in your child’s red folder. Please check Daily. I cannot wait to share your child with you this year! RED FOLDERS This will be a plastic folder that will be brought to class daily. This folder is for notes and lunch money, and a place for Graded papers and daily work. It will be used to keep your child organized!! If you need to send money or a note to me please put it in this folder; in an envelope with my name on it and your child’s name on it. I will check this folder DAILY. Also, Monthly Newsletters and Conduct Sheet will be in plastic sleeves in this folder. COMMUNICATION PARENT TIPS I have always felt that a parent teacher relationship is very important for your child to succeed. Therefore I have many ways to stay connected with my parents. Here are the following ways: • Keep a weekly routine! A morning routine and a afternoon routine will help both you and your child. Set aside specific times for homework/reading and set a routine bedtime! • Notify the school of any changes in phone number/address/work number/health information. Keeping up-to-date records makes it a lot easier to contact you! • Don’t do everything for your child! Let them gain some independence at their developmental level, especially with zipping, buttoning and tying! • Read with your child daily. This is one of the best things you can do to ensure your child’s success! • Get involved-in your child’s classroom, the Parent -Teacher group, any way you can! Ask questions about your child’s school day. Go beyond just” What did you learn today? ” Be specific in your questions- “Who did you play with at recess? ” or “Did you read you a story today? What was it about? ” • Reinforce what your child is learning at school. Have fun playing rhyming, alphabet or number games in the car or while waiting in lines or at the doctor’s office. • Talk to your child’s teacher and be available if they need to talk to you. They are here to help you and your child! • Encourage your child! Find positive things to say about their work or progress everyday! They want to know you are proud of them. • Notice what comes home from school with your child! Many questions are answered by newsletters sent by the school and teacher. Also take time to notice the work your child brings home. Is there anything they are struggling with? Try to help at home! Email- You can e-mail me at anytime! Newsletter- I will send home a newsletter monthly. Website- I have a class website where you can find study materials and learning links, and much more! Monthly Calendar-this will be located in front of your child’s Red Folder. It will have homework, test, upcoming events and much more! Remind- This is a wonderful app that allows us to communicate, set up conferences, post pictures of the class and much more. GRADES We take grades in Kindergarten on their letter knowledge, sight words, math, handwriting, language arts, and reading comprehension. Grades will go home every two weeks in your child’s Yellow folder. There will be a sheet to sign, so I know you have seen their grades. You can also check your child’s grades on skyward daily.
