HOW GREAT THOU ART O LORD my God! When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Chorus Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.
Chorus Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.
Chorus Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim, my God how great Thou art!
Chorus Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art! --
(Stand) INVOCATION PIn the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.
OPENING SENTENCES Psalm 96: 1– 9 POh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! C Sing to the LORD, bless His Name; tell of His salvation from day to day. PDeclare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples! C For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
C Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. PFor all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. C Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. PAscribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength!
C Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His Name; bring an offering, and come into His courts! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION PHave mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; C according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. PWash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! C For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
PAs we come and bow before the LORD to confess our sins, we admit that we have bowed down to other gods of this world and gods of our own choosing. C We confess we have trusted in ourselves and others rather than in You.
PWe have failed to rely on You in all times. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, and against others in what we have done and left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart C and have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We confess we have trusted in ourselves and others rather than in You.
PLet the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; C let the field exult, and everything in it! PThen shall the trees of the forest sing for joy C before the LORD, for He comes,
Pfor He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in His faithfulness. C Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. PBrothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, God is a merciful and loving Father, of whom “there is no other, besides Him there is no God. ” He has chosen you in the Gospel,
which has come not only in word but with full conviction in power and in the Holy Spirit. Jesus died on the cross to redeem You. Through Him, in His stead, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, I forgive you all your sins in the Name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.
T WORD T INTROIT Psalm 121: 1– 4, 7– 8; antiphon: v. 5 P The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. P The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
LET THE SON SHINE IN Joyful hope, love of God and smiling faces The heritage we have as sons of God Christ has risen to new life Put an end to death and strife Now we celebrate as one and sons of God
Chorus: So let the Son shine in Share Christ with your neighbor And happiness will never leave your heart
On your job, in your home or at a party People wishing all their friends the peace of Christ Happy feelings in the air Forget your troubles and your cares And join all those who share the peace of Christ.
Chorus: So let the Son shine in Share Christ with your neighbor And happiness will never leave your heart -(Sing 2 x)
PThe LORD be with you. C And also with you. PLet us pray. O God, the protector of all who trust in You, have mercy on us that with You as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal;
through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our LORD, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. (Sit)
OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 45: 1– 7 1 Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed: 2“I will go before you and level the exalted places,
I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron, 3 I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who call you by your name. 4 For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I name you, though you do not know me.
5 I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, 6 that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the LORD, and there is no other. 7 I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things. ”
LThis is the Word of the LORD. C Thanks be to God.
EPISTLE 1 Thessalonians 1: 1– 10 1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the LORD Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. 2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our LORD Jesus Christ.
4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be 6 among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the LORD, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,
7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For not only has the word of the LORD sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. 9 For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. LThis is the Word of the LORD. C Thanks be to God.
(Stand) HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 22: 15– 22 PThe Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty-second chapter. C Glory to You, O LORD. 15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle [Jesus] in his talk. 16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying,
“Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not 17 swayed by appearances. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? ” 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax. ” And they 20 brought him a denarius. And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this? ”
21 They said, “Caesar’s. ” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are 22 God’s. ” When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away. PThis is the Gospel of the LORD. C Praise to You, O Christ. (Sit)

SERMON “Oh, Politics!" Matthew 22: 15 -22
(Stand) NICENE CREED C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one LORD Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation
came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures
and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the LORD and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets
And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

CHURCH IN THE WILDWOOD There’s a church in the valley by the wildwood, no lovelier spot in the dale No place is so dear to my childhood as the little brown church in the vale.
Chorus: Oh, come, come to the church in the wildwood, Oh, come to the church in the vale. No spot is so dear to my childhood as the little brown church in the dale.
How sweet on a clear sabbath morning, to listen to the clear ringing bell; Its tones so sweetly are calling, oh come to the church in the vale.
Chorus: Oh, come, come to the church in the wildwood, Oh, come to the church in the vale. No spot is so dear to my childhood as the little brown church in the dale. --
