What is TEMS? TEMS is Tulane’s 24/7 ground ambulance service. We are staffed by

What is TEMS? TEMS is Tulane’s 24/7 ground ambulance service. We are staffed by 60 student volunteers, All of whom are certified (at the minimum) as EMT-Bs at the National, State and Parish levels. We offer a free-of-charge service, Which saves the student body about $440, 000 each year.

What do we do? Calling 504 -865 -5911 connects the caller with the TUPD

What do we do? Calling 504 -865 -5911 connects the caller with the TUPD Uptown Dispatch center. From there, any medical emergencies are routed to our current duty crew. TEMS responds rapidly to the emergency and provides on-scene care. We transport the patient to the most appropriate hospital for the emergency. We then mark ourselves in service and return to campus to await the next call.

What Kind of Calls Do We Get? Our largest categories of calls are as follows: Et. OH/Toxicology: 25. 7% These are emergencies involving alcohol or other drugs Misc. Medical: 23. 3% These are emergencies such as infection, abdominal pain or heat stroke Injury/Trauma: 17. 8% These are physical injuries, which are referred to as ‘traumatic’ rather than ‘medical’ Psychiatric: 9. 0% These are mental health related emergencies

How Do I Join? • Non-EMTs apply late fall semester • Application with essay

How Do I Join? • Non-EMTs apply late fall semester • Application with essay questions plus multiple rounds of interviews • No medical knowledge needed • All are welcome to apply, regardless of major or career interest • EMTs apply early in spring semester • Similar application process • This route is meant for applicants who already hold at least an EMT-B certification
