Math Teaching Point: I can use place value strategies to add to 100. • Number Talk • Word Problem of the Day • I can decompose to add. • Mini-lesson: Today we will review how to decompose to add. We will learn how to regroup ones and tens when we add. • Task: Use your paperclip and pencil to spin for numbers that you will add as you play, “Spin-it, Decompose-it, Add-it”.
Reading • Good readers read books from all genres. • Good readers can identify the main topic of the texts that they read. • Mini-Lesson: Today we will learn how to identify the main topic, or main idea, of nonfiction texts. • Task: See if you can figure out what the mystery items are in the bags. Write the “main topic”, or your guess, on your handout. Teaching Point: I can identify the main topic of a nonfiction text.

Writing Teaching Point: I can write to inform. • Good writers write to inform. • Informational writing involves writing real facts and becoming experts on a topic. • Mini-Lesson: Today we will learn about components of informational writing. When we write to inform, we become “experts” on our topic. • Task: Listen as we read about bats. Let’s see what facts we learn as we become “experts” about our topic.
Phonics Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with long vowel teams. Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. This week we will look at spelling patterns for the long “e” sound. Let’s read a passage and see how many words we can find with long
