Math Teaching Point: I can use place value strategies to subtract within 100. • Number Talk • Word Problem of the Day • I can decompose to subtract and regroup when I need to. • Mini-lesson: We will play a game together called “Race to Zero” and use base ten block manipulatives to review how to regroup in subtraction.
Reading • Good readers identify points made by an author in texts and find supporting reasons that the author gives as well. • Mini-Lesson: We will continue to learn about how to identify the author’s points and reasons in texts. We will read a passage together titled, “Education”. • Task: Now you read on your own, “Brushing Your Teeth”. Use a red crayon to underline the author’s point and yellow crayons to underline supporting reasons. Teaching Point: I can identify the author’s points and reasons in a text.

Writing Teaching Point: I can write to inform. • Good writers write to inform. • Informational writing involves writing real facts and becoming experts on a topic. • Mini-Lesson: Students have worked with a teacher to read a nonfiction book on their topic and write facts to become an expert. Today we will finish organizing our thoughts to complete the graphic organizer. • Task: Write the mighty middle of your paragraph with main ideas and details.
Grammar Teaching Point: I can use an apostrophe correctly in a contraction. • Mentor sentence from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: You’ll have to fix up a little box for him with a blanket and a pillow. • Mini-Lesson: We will review what we have learned about contractions. Remember, contractions are used to write words in a shorter way. Put an apostrophe where you remove letters. • Task: Begin working on scoot task cards.

Science Teaching Point: I can describe attributes of stars. • Mini-Lesson: Today, we will review what we learned yesterday about the sun, the closest star to Earth. • Task: We will listen to Pebble Go Science and complete the fill in the blank handout with information that we learn about the sun.
