Tuesday 6 July Injection: TDI studies: Brennan Goddard In parallel with SPS controlled transverse blowup setting-up used the LHC circulating beams to make some checks of LHC injection protection Made scans of TDI settings with +/-1000 urad angles applied to jaws, for B 1, as a function of TCP setting. Data to be fully analysed - scale offsets seen with both angles, unlike B 2. Find 0. 4 mm for downstream end and 1. 1 mm for upstream end. B 2 TDI scan repeated with the offsets found in previous measurements: results coherent with earlier findings.
Tuesday 6 July Emittance measurements in TL: Chiarra Bracco SPS Beam blown up to emittance of >3 um. Emittance was then measured in the TL by means of the BTV finding the following results: TI 8: EH= 2. 6 um (SPS: 3 um) - EV= 2. 8 um (SPS: 3 um) TI 2: EH= 3. 4 um (SPS: 3. 2 um) - EV= 2. 2 um (SPS: 2. 9 um) Emittance in vertical plane was blown again in order to have > 3 um and new measurements were done in TI 2: EH = 3. 4 um (SPS: 3. 5 um) - EV = 2. 5 um (SPS: 3. 5 um) Vertical plane show controversial results --> measure beam in the LHC and more to be done to understand the results.
Tuesday 6 July Transverse blowup studies for LHCINDIV on LHCFAST 2 in the SPS - Wolfgang Hofle Octupoles are used in combination with an excitation by the damper around the tune frequency (small frequency modulation). Tuned the system for providing emittances of 3 um in H and 3. 5 um in V with SPS WS. Transfer lines indicate about 3 um in both planes, both beams.

Tuesday 6 July Wire scanner B 2: Ana Guerrero There were two issues: • Wire not home: electronics board needs to be changed (access required). In the meanwhile, go to expert options/status and do init hardware • No signal: The bunch selection was set to (25 ns) slot 161 which means that the acquisition is not in phase anymore for slot 1. Look in expert options/setting/bunch selection. BPMS + BPMSW gains: Rhodri Jones, Lars Jensen, Kajetan Fuchsberger Gain average found to be ~0. 93 for both beams, which is much better than before the correction (~0. 85) - on-going

Tuesday 6 July High/Low sensitivity switching –test of the time needed in view of automatic switching at injection– Rhodri Jones+ Lars Jensen + Kajetan Fuchsberger Switched sensitivity to low before dumping beam 1 and trying to switch back automatically within the 1 sec injection pre-warning to high sensitivity. Sensitivity switching in principle worked, but was too slow (first yasp orbit acquisition did not see all BPMs correctly. second one was ok. Some RBAC inconsistencies: it was only possible to switch the crates L/R of point 1. Then an rbac exception occurred: Access not granted.

A heater power supply is discharging) and point 8 (QPS card to be exchanged on B 8 L 8). 19: 30 – 21: 00 : Problem with ADT system – traced to vacuum problem - just needed to reset a vacuum gage 21: 30: Ready to inject

V, before launching the ramp: Event group not sent on the power convertors (only RF and collimators were launched)- RBAC error in the middle of sequence. Beams dumped by collimators movement seen magnet energy left at 450 Ge. V 2 - Dumped at 3. 3 Te. V interlock on LVDT TCLAB 5. L 3. B 2. Piquet intervened (software re-set) 3 - Dumped at 500 Ge. V, same problem, piquet intervened, harware re-set. Being now investigated. Might need an access
