What is a tsunami Tsunami is a Japanese word that literally means “big wave” A tsunami is a series of high long waves it happens with a sudden displacement of the ocean which radiates waves in all directions that could be a result of a earthquake shaking the ground under the water and as the waves come closer to the land they pick up more water and eventually this leads to a huge series of wave.

Has it happened on earth yet? It has happened before, it can happen anywhere at any time my example is the Lituay bay tsunami in Alaska the biggest one to ever happen with a wave of 1, 720 feet this had five deaths reported This tsunami was on a July night in 1958 evidence of the tsunami was the amount of water at high points and the broken and torn down trees.

How much risk of a tsunami happening here? Not a great risk because we have Vancouver island to help us as a barrier but if an earthquake happened between here and the island causing a tsunami it wouldn’t be that bad because of the minimal water between us and the island oppose to a open land masses by the ocean but we still are in risk of a tsunami all though tiny because of Vancouver island but the reason we are very vulnerable is because we are in the pacific ring of fire.

Any movies about it? Well kind of because san Andrea’s fault has a tsunami in it and no this movie is not realistic in the way that the tsunami was way to huge to be caused by an earth quake but could be caused by an asteroid (main actor the rock)
