3 rd grade weekly math challenge homework problem students meet with the teacher and work through centers/rotations all students are exposed to enrichment/challenge opportunities Retro Rotations- activities to review old math topics two lengthy math topics: multiplication/division and fractions students need to solve multiplication/division problems with the unknown in all locations ● some homework to reinforce these topics will be sent home (usually due the next day) ● two-step word problems with all operations is an ongoing topic ● ● ●
4 th grade ● Math Journal Problem ● Students are grouped by 4 th grade or 4/5 Math (students are all in the same math class) ● Meet in small groups and work through rotations ● Math is differentiated for all students. ● All students are provided with enrichment opportunities ● Weekly word problem
grade 4/5 Mathematics curriculum ● Combines all of the Grade 4 mathematics standards and most of the Grade 5 mathematics standards ● Prepares students to successfully complete Algebra 1 by Grade 7 ● Moves into Grade 5/6 Mathematics Curriculum the following school year
Grade 4/5 Math ● The 4/5 curriculum covers the content of 6 Marking Periods. Students will cover 4 Marking periods of 4 th grade math and 2 marking periods of 5 th grade math in 4 marking periods. ● Rigor, Pacing, Independence, Reasoning/Flexible Thinking and Computation ● Selection for 4/5 Math is done in 3 rd grade by teacher recommendation, completion of county-wide math problems and many other data points.
5 th grade ● Students are separated into 5 th Grade and 5/6 Math ● Students meet in small group and work through centers/rotations ● Math is differentiated for all students ● All students are provided with enrichment/challenge opportunities ● Homework packets with weekly challenges
5/6 Math ● The 5/6 curriculum covers the content of 6 Marking Periods. Students will cover the other 2 marking periods of 5 th grade math and then all 4 marking periods of 6 th Grade math all in only 4 marking periods. ● Rigor, Pacing, Independence, Reasoning/Flexible Thinking and Computation ● Students who participated in the 4/5 math will be selected for 5/6 math. Note: In 9 th Grade on grade level students can take Geometry and Algebra 2
