Why? • This slide is the most important and is up to you to write what you think is most apt. • For “The Ugly Truth” – I would supposed that the residential schools and the treatment within them was justified by an engrained racism and a “hear no evil, see no evil” type of government policy. Although proponents of the schools had their reasons, (progress, nation building) they valued the positive things they thought would come from the schools over the negative things that happened in them. They were a necessary and ugly tool in the minds of those who created and promoted the policy.
Personal Introduction • I would like to thank Simon Baker for taking the time to talk to us today and share his undeniably horrific memories. Simon will be talking of his time at the Lytton, British Columbia Residential School, and explaining the current state of Residential School survivors and their families. Simon is an ambassador for equality for the families affected by the schools. Your stories and work are much appreciated Mr. Baker and I am proud to introduce you here today. Let’s join together and welcome our appreciated keynote speaker: Simon Baker.
Thanking a Speaker • Thank you for sharing your stories with us here today. It was undoubtedly difficult for you to do so, but you have educated many people in the process. Raising awareness is often a thankless job but please know, that your address Mr. Baker, has not gone unappreciated, and will effect change by the process of banishing ignorance amongst this crowd. Many thanks.
