Tropical Rainforests By: Chidimma, Carly, and Isabella
What is a rain forest? • A rainforest is a hot and humid place. It rains 80 inches a year. Half of all the world’s animals live there.
Location of Rain Forests The rainforest are located in Africa, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America.
Emergent Layer • The Emergent Layer is the top of the rainforest where birds, monkeys, and sloths sleep. The tops of the trees grow in this layer.
Macaws are the most beautiful bird in the entire rainforests. The Macaws are almost extinct so please save them. Macaws
Harpy Eagles • Harpy eagles are not mammals. They eat monkeys and sloths. They can fly very high. Harpy eagles are also great divers.
Monkeys • Monkeys are mammals that live in the tree and some monkeys eat fruits. All monkeys live in trees and swing from branch to branch.
Canopy Layer • The canopy layer is in the middle of the rainforest where monkeys, butterflies, and snakes live. The canopy layer is the biggest layer in the jungle. Moss, lichen, and epiphytes grow on the tree trunks.
• Sloths are the slowest animals in the jungle. They are also mammals that live on the trees. Sloths
Understory Layer The Understory is a layer where birds, snakes, and butterflies live. Lots of plants like Rosy Periwinckle, and Bromeliad are planted.
• The Forest Floor is where jaguars, tapirs, and insects live. • Rafflesias don’t need lots of sunlight. Forest Floor
Frogs lay eggs underwater. They have a life cycle. When they grow up they do not live underwater anymore.
Crocodiles are mammals that live underwater. They eat fish and other animals they can find.
Deforestation • Deforestation is when a rainforest is burnt down for floors and chairs. Sometimes they are burnt down to find minerals. They are also burnt down for farming and building tables.
People of the Rain Forest • People have lived in the rainforest for thousands of years and they still do. The Pygmy people of the African rainforest are very small.
Conclusion • Help save the rainforest or all of the beauty will be gone forever!!!!!
