Gathering Please join in the words in bold We meet in the presence of God who knows our needs, hears our cries, feels our pain, and heals our wounds. We are your people, and together we say: Glory and glory O my soul awake to your God Like a tree reaches for the light Jesus our Christ grant us sight Glory and glory This time, this place is Yours. Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you And also with you.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers, fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me. I need Thy presence, every passing hour. What but Thy grace, can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me. 3

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross, before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies. ; heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. 4

Reconnecting with God Please join in the words in bold We come to God

Reconnecting with God Please join in the words in bold We come to God as one from whom no secrets are hidden, to ask for his forgiveness and peace Christ came in humility to share our lives: forgive our pride. Lord, have mercy. Christ came with good news for all people: forgive our silence. Christ, have mercy. Christ came in love to a world of suffering: forgive our self-centredness. Lord, have mercy.

Prayer for day Please join in the words in bold Stillness Thank you for this day, Lord. A day of forgiveness, that stretches out like a lake of never-ending grace. A day of unity, mending broken lives, where we build bridges of peace and restoration. A day of celebration, of worship to a living Lord who holds heaven out to us. A day to trust even when things will not be as they were before, God is with us and goes before us into the future. Amen. The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind. A period of silence is kept as we wait on God and learn to be still As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever. Amen

The Scriptures Exek. 34. 11 -16, 20 -24 At the end of each passage

The Scriptures Exek. 34. 11 -16, 20 -24 At the end of each passage the reader may say For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and make them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 7

The Scriptures Exek. 34. 11 -16, 20 -24 (cont. ) At the end of each passage the reader may say Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says to them: see, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away, I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another. I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the LORD have spoken. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 8

The Scriptures At the end of each passage the reader may say This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Matt. 25. 31 -46 ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. ‘Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. ” ‘Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison and go to visit you? ” 10

The Scriptures Matt. 25. 31 -46 (cont. ) At the end of each passage

The Scriptures Matt. 25. 31 -46 (cont. ) At the end of each passage the reader may say ‘The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. ” ‘Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was ill and in prison and you did not look after me. ” ‘They also will answer, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or ill or in prison, and did not help you? ” ‘He will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me. ” ‘Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. ’ This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 11

Stand up for Jesus Stand up, stand up for Jesus, you servants of the cross, Tell out the precious gospel that love endures through loss. While conflict rages round you and evil presses near, Cling to the cross of Jesus, that love may cast out fear. Stand up, stand up for Jesus, no more blaspheme his name, For hatred, war and violence have decked his cross with shame. Face Jesus in repentance, for blood the church has shed, And pray he may empower us, to give not stones, but bread. Stand up, beloved in Jesus, you feeble, weak and spurned, See! What the world counts manhood the cross has overturned. You that are men, now serve him but with a different sword, Kneel at his side with Mary and learn that love is Lord. 13

Stand up, beloved in Jesus you hungry and oppressed, Who now can doubt your status when God has called you blessed? Lift high your hearts, you women your call comes from above, And God’s free grace ordains you to walk his way of love. So stand as one for Jesus our prophet, priest and king, Who longs to fold his children beneath his gentle wing. And know, the one we worship died stretched on Calvary’s tree, Bruised, beaten, still he loves us this is our victory. Debbie Peatman c. 1984 14

Declaration of Faith For those who have chosen to walk with Jesus, we say: To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God. Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory. cf John 6. 60 – 71

In the Beginning In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God

In the Beginning In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God and the Word was with God. And everything that has been made through him, nothing made without him. In him was life, that life was light for everyone. The darkness tries, but the light will not be overcome. 17

The light that shines for everyone has come into the world. The light of Christ the only Son has come into the world, has come into the world. He made his dwelling in the world as the Word made flesh, and we've seen his glory. And in the sending of the Son, grace and truth have come through the One and Only. Words and Music © Joel Payne 18
