The Year 6 Team Class Teachers Matthews Mrs Hayter Teaching Assistants Ms Rowe Ms Gillings
About Mrs Matthews I have been teaching for 24 years. This is my 11 th Year 6 class. I have taught Y 2, Y 3, Y 4, Y 5 and Y 6 at TSM and YR, Y 1 and Y 2 in other schools. I am Assistant Head at the school, responsible for English and Teaching and Learning throughout the school. I have taught both my children in Y 6 at TSM (therefore I only ask of you as a parent what I expect to do myself!) I have high expectations of both myself and the children in my care. I am excited to work with Mrs Hayter as we have a similar ethos. I love my job!!
About Mrs Hayter I have been teaching for 17 years. I have taught in lower KS 2 since starting at TSM, although I have taught most of the other years (including year 6) before. I am responsible for Science and DT throughout the school. My children are in Year 7 and Year 8 so the Year 6 parental experience is still very fresh in my mind! I am excited to be sharing the class with Mrs Matthews. I love teaching, especially finding new and interesting ways to help the children learn.
End of Year Expectations
Assessing Without Levels The expectation is that every child is secure for their year group. Class teachers will initially look at the previous years expectations and address early on any missed learning alongside year 6 expectations.
How well is my child doing? Parents Evening OCTOBER To be confirmed Parents Evening FEBRUARY To be confirmed School Reports JULY Progress towards National Expectations grid - Reports ▪ January ▪ April ▪ July
Termly Reporting - We want children and parents to know actually what they have achieved. -We want children and parents to know what they need to work on next. - We want parents to work with the school to ensure progress.
End of Year Report How this report works - This end of year report shares your child’s attainment. - This report shows if the progress targets for reading, writing & maths set at the beginning of the year were achieved. - This report shows if your child has achieved the Year’s Expectation in all subjects.
Narrowing the Gap This year we are introducing additional support through specific booster sessionssupported by government funding Our aim is to develop a whole new culture of deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths, reading and writing through the support of additional sessions provided primarily by class teachers to identified children. By building confidence, resilience and a passion for maths, reading and writing, we can build on prior experience or knowledge to address any missing learning. More details to follow.
Narrowing the Gap The National Tutoring Programme • According to the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) the NTP will consist of two ‘pillars’: • NTP Partners: through NTP Partners, schools will be able to access heavily subsidised tutoring from an approved list of tuition partners. These organisations – which will all be subject to quality, safeguarding and evaluation standards – will be given support and funding to reach as many disadvantaged pupils as possible. • NTP Coaches: through NTP Coaches, trained graduates will be employed by schools in the most disadvantaged areas to provide intensive catch-up support to their pupils, allowing teachers in these schools to focus on their classrooms.
