STAKEHOLDER ANALYSIS BACKGROUND Leading a project requires the project manager to answer to a number of different legitimate people who have an interest in the project. These legitimate persons act toward their own interest, influencing the projects'’ success or failure. They are known as sponsors and stakeholders. According to Boonstra (2016: 40), stakeholders range from people to groups of people inside or outside the organisation. As these stakeholders vary, their responsibility in or toward the project varies too (Jisc, 2017). Stakeholders can be those who are ultimately affected, either positively or negatively, by the project referred to as primary stakeholders. Then there are those who are indirectly affected by the project, referred to as secondary stakeholders. Lastly there are significant role players who are key to the organization and hold great influence upon a project. These are known as key stakeholders (You. Tube, 2017) Given the above complexity of stakeholder matrix, an understanding of each’s responsibility and interest will help the project manager prioritize what and how they report to each of them (Smallbusiness. chron. com, 2017) An important element of stakeholder management and project team make up is selecting complimentary skills to ensure a project is delivered in the most effective and efficient manner. Belbin (2012) indicates that having too much of the same skill or strength may cause conflict in turn slow down delivery. He suggests a number of different clusters of behaviour which are a way to celebrate diversity and use such diversity to ensure project success. Team roles have been assigned to the stakeholder analysis on this project. J 00052471 2
