WHAT TRANPORTATION PLANNING IS ABOUT The basic purpose of the transportation is to provide

WHAT TRANPORTATION PLANNING IS ABOUT The basic purpose of the transportation is to provide efficient access to various activities that satisfy the human needs. Thus general goal of the transportation is to accommodate these needs for mobility Whose mobility? for what purpose? by what means? at what cost? and to whom? are not easy to answer Urban Transportation Planning is about five important points: Understanding of travel pattern in urban area

WHAT TRANPORTATION PLANNING IS ABOUT Understanding of causing factors that influence the demand for

WHAT TRANPORTATION PLANNING IS ABOUT Understanding of causing factors that influence the demand for travel and intern travel pattern Development of relationship between travel pattern and causing factors Application or use of this relationship to predict future demand for travel and to predict future travel pattern Prediction of transport infrastructure requirement based on the predicted travel demand

TRANPORTATION PLANNING Transportation planning deals with planning of transportation facilities to meet present and

TRANPORTATION PLANNING Transportation planning deals with planning of transportation facilities to meet present and future needs in sustainable manner e. g estimation of future demands, needs & problems, preparing plan for implementations

TRANPORTATION PLANNING Transportation planning is a process that leads to the decision on transportation

TRANPORTATION PLANNING Transportation planning is a process that leads to the decision on transportation policies and programs. In other words a process to provide information necessary for making decision on when and where improvements should be in the transportation system, thus promoting travel and land development patterns that are in keeping with community goals and objectives. After revolutionary development of technology, the challenges of transportation planning became multifold.

FUNCTION OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING • Transportation planning is a preparation planning to move/transfer human,

FUNCTION OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING • Transportation planning is a preparation planning to move/transfer human, animal or other item to some place to another place. This planning will related to the operation of the highway system, geometry, and operation of traffic facilities

IMPORTANT OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING • Efficiency – to achieve efficient management and better management

IMPORTANT OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING • Efficiency – to achieve efficient management and better management of existing resources Effective use of transportation system Uses of technology Land use and resource controlling • Quality To reduce a negative impact to the traffic that produce a pollution • Equity to meet travel demand response for all communities

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PERIOD Short Term (Action Plan) • review matters that can be completed

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PERIOD Short Term (Action Plan) • review matters that can be completed within three years and involve high costs. • Example: program an engineers to optimize the use of existing transportation systems by installing various traffic control devices such as signs and signals

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PERIOD Long Term ( ≥ 5 years) • This type of planning

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PERIOD Long Term ( ≥ 5 years) • This type of planning is more structured and complicated and it must be designed better than short term planning • urban transportation planning process involves planning the next 20 to 25 year

TRANPORTATION SYSTEM A system is a group of interdependent and interrelated components that form

TRANPORTATION SYSTEM A system is a group of interdependent and interrelated components that form a complex and unified whole intended to serve some purpose through the performance of its interacting parts. Understanding of the transportation system is very important to understand travel pattern and behavior of people in urban area.
