Who is using CAT Tools? 88% of respondents use at least one CAT tool

Who is using CAT Tools? 88% of respondents use at least one CAT tool for at least some of their translation tasks. Of those using CAT tools, 76% use more than one CAT tool. Of those using CAT tools, 83% use a CAT tool for most or all of their translation work. Of those using CAT tools, 64% have been using one for upwards of three years now, and 23% have been using one for more than seven years.

How does a TM work? Each unit of text in the original and target

How does a TM work? Each unit of text in the original and target language is stored in a database (. . After it has been confirmed by the translator. ) When the translator starts working on a new unit, the software automatically searches for similar units in the database and suggests hits. Similarity is computed on the basis of string comparison (surface level). Usually only hits above a certain threshold will be offered (default 70 %). 100 % = exact match 99 – 70 % = fuzzy match < 70 % = no match
