Translation and Correction of NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope Solar Synoptic Data Central part

Translation and Correction of NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope Solar Synoptic Data Central part of a full disk magnetogram made on 1 February 1974 with display saturated at 60 Gauss. Left is the original data. Right is the data corrected for instrumental noise.

Translation and Correction of NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope Solar Synoptic Data This data

Translation and Correction of NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope Solar Synoptic Data This data environment project is aimed at correcting known errors in a 30 -year record of daily full-disk magnetograms made at the National Solar Observatory. The project is also modernizing accessibility to the data set. This restoration will ensure a continuing availability of data that has already been used in more than 1200 research papers and theses. • Task 1 – Correction of calibration errors and artifacts Produce a copy of the original data set in which known errors are eliminated. In progress, see preceding slide. • Task 2 – Reconstruction of derived data products Produce new versions of synoptic maps and other data products. In progress. • Task 3 – Translation to enable modern data access Place all the data in one location and create modern FITS headers. Finished. • Task 4 – Document the history of instrumental and software changes Use modern computer tools to prepare a searchable record of the observations and document the important hardware and software aspects of the observations. In progress.
