TRANSITION
Transition • • • Home to nursery Nursery to reception KS 1 to KS 2 First to middle KS 2 to KS 3 Middle to high school KS 3 to KS 4 Sixth form Leaving school • • year group to year group Class teacher Subject teachers SET changes • Friendship groups • House moves • Family relationships
Why is a good transition important? o It’s a time of change – can be when pupils are at their most vulnerable ◦ New peer groups ◦ More independence ◦ New challenges ◦ Increased levels of anxiety and worry o Pupils go from being known to being unknown. Their current school/teacher knows all about them but the new school/teacher knows little and so valuable knowledge and information can be lost. Attendance and attainment is passed on but what about o Friendships o Schools relationships with parents o What motivates them? o What are their hobbies and interests? o What do they worry about? o How is their mental and physical health
