• 1. If you want to train your children correctly, train them in the way they should go, and not in the way that they want to go. • What is the most important thing about a child that • Is yours? His soul!. • Train with this thought continually before your eyes—that the soul of your child is the first thing to be considered. • When do you need to train him? You will have the child about 18 years, normally. What will you do that will reflect Wisdom in ‘training your children right?

• Train them to have a habit of prayer. You pray • and teach them to pray. I Thess. 5: 17; Acts 2: 42 • Daniel 6: 10 • “If I could hear my Mother, pray again!” • Train them to have a joy in going to worship. • “I was glad when they said unto me, let us • go into the house of the Lord” Psalm 122: 1 •

• 2. Train your child with all tenderness, affection, and patience. • Don’t be harsh , cruel and abusive with your child. • Tell them you love them, then show it! • Give them a part of you!. Daddy, I want you!!! • Train them, remembering continually, the influence of your own example. Eph. 6: 4 • Fathers and mothers, do not forget that children learn more by the eye than they do by the ear!! • Matt. 5: 16 • I Pet. 2: 21

• 3. . Train them to have a habit of always speaking the truth. • The best way to do that, is that you always speak • the truth to them. Don’t lie! • Rev. 21: 8; • Jno. 8: 32; • John 17: 17; •

• 4. As you train your children, continually remember how God trains His children. •

• Prov. 13: 24 “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. ” • Prov. 19: 18 “Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death. ” • Prov. 22: 15 “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. ” • Prov. 23: 13 -14 “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death. ” • Prov. 29: 15, 17 “The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother. ” • 17 “Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul. ”

• Deuteronomy 6: 4 -7 “Hear O’ Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord; And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart. And thou shalt teach diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. ” (All the time!)

And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. ” (Train up a child!) • Col. 3: 21 “Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. ”

• Now, based upon these scriptures, we learn that we should train up our children in the way of the Lord so they can grow up to be Christians • . Yes, sometimes our children will stray away from the Christian principles that are taught to them, but just like the prodigal son who strayed away from his father’s love and later came back home when he repented, if our children are taught the way of the Lord, even though they may stray away for a time, in God’s own time, they will come back to living the Christian principles that they were taught.

• Some of you have told me about your children • Playing church.

• Train up a child. We will train them whether we realize it or not. They will learn things from mom and dad and other people. They are little copycats. They will copy something that they see and hear in us, good or bad. ILL. Someone said, “Before I got married I had six theories about bringing up children; now I have six children and no theories. ” • ILL. - That’s like the young student of child behavior who frequently delivered a lecture called “Ten Commandments for Parents. ” He married and became a father. The title of the lecture was altered to “Ten Hints for Parents. ” Another child arrived. The lecture became “Some Suggestions for Parents. ” A third child was born. The lecturer stopped lecturing. • Prov. 22: 6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. ” What about this verse of scripture? On the surface, it sounds pretty good and many parents put their faith in exactly what it says. They hope and pray that their straying children will someday come back to the faith they once knew as a child or as they were taught as a child. • I, too, tend to believe this verse as it is. I want to believe that we have taught our children about Christ when they were little will always stay with them or come back to them at some point in their lives
