• Safranbolu houses are the traditional Turkish houses built in 18 th centuries. Safranbolu houses have beautiful samples of woodcarving. The houses are generally with two or three storeys. The yards of the houses are surrounded by high stonewalls. None of the houses obstruct the sunlight of the other ones. The windows of the houses are narrow and long. The windows don’t overlook at the windows of the neighbours.
• Each house has two entrance doors. There are two different knockers on the doors. The women knock the door with the little knocker and the men knock the door with the big knocker.

TURKISH PALACES 1. TOPKAPI PALACE
• Constructed by Sultan Mehmed the Concueror between 1460 and 1478, the Topkapi Palace sits on top of the hill of the promontory overlooking both the Marmara Sea and the Bosphorus. The Palace has taken its present layout with the addition of new structures in the later centuries.
• Companions of the Prophet of Islam in the palace and other items also have Holy relics were brought in 1917 by Sultan Abdulhamid 2 th
• For 380 years, Topkapi Palace served as the residence of the Ottoman sultans and the administration and education centre of the state. Topkapi Palace was converted to a museum in 1924.
2. DOLMABAHÇE PALACE • Dolmabahce Palace was constructed by Sultan Abdulmecid between 1843 and 1856 as a mixture of European architectural styles. Dolmabahce Palace has a unique richness and magnificence. The walls and ceilings of the palace are decorated with the paintings of gold by some of Europe’s famous artists. All the floor are covered with the ornate wood parquet. Dolmabahce Palace was converted into a museum in 1984.
• During the Republican era, the palace was used as a residence by Mustafa Kemal, and he died in the palace in 1938.
