What can be protected through a trademark: • A word, group of words, phrase, or text • Name • A symbol, image, graphic, or design • A device
How do you know what is trademarked? • A trademark is followed by a trademark symbol • The symbol is a ® • This is only put on registered trademarks
What is the purpose? • To keep people from copying another persons idea • Made to avoid consumer confusion • Increases the importance in branding
Does it protect you? • Yes, it protects your idea • The idea of a symbol, design, or word can’t be taken by another for a company if you have it trademarked • That way nobody will take credit for your work
How does it protect? • Keeps people from taking credit for what you have done • This will keep you’re idea from getting taken by another • Won’t be able to be made and put in another persons hands
When do you need a trademark? • When you’re trying to protect: • company logo • slogan • design
Why would you want a trademark? • To avoid consumer confusion • So nobody will take your idea • To keep others from wanting to take credit for your idea
