Ephesians 4: 11 -13 overlaying the Great Commission All authority … given to me.

Ephesians 4: 11 -13 overlaying the Great Commission All authority … given to me. Therefore … Christ bestows his gifts to his church with a focus on compatibility, a range of abilities that will equip his people collectively to fulfil his commission. His authority and grace are fully displayed Go… (to) all nations APOSTLES go instinctively to plant churches, understanding that church life is normally key to discipleship. They help them function as disciple-making communities, outwardly and onwardly. Make disciples PASTORS/SHEPHERDS lead their communities in pursuing their normal task of cultivating disciples to make disciples. All are embraced as significant. Baptising them in the name EVANGELISTS inspire and recruit others to join in on (be baptised into) the lifetime adventure of following Jesus. Getting alongside them makes the Kingdom of God sound like good news! Teaching them to obey TEACHERS patiently instruct others to obey all that Jesus has commanded them. In the Holy Spirit, they gain comprehensive knowledge of what Jesus wants them to do and how to do it. Surely I am with you always PROPHETS help people to listen to God, standing back from circumstances to discern what is happening and bringing creative and godly solutions. They understand the times and to respond. Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4: 11 -13

‘When we establish a network of discipleship across the church community we open up

‘When we establish a network of discipleship across the church community we open up new horizons for every member of the body … Nothing will give us more delight than to see those in whom we are investing overtake us and forge ahead, blazing new trails for the kingdom. For people-centred leaders, empowering and releasing others is food and drink; it stimulates and satisfies. They know that it carries the kingdom forward because it is every Christian, scattered across the wider community, in their neighbourhood or place of work, who is actually on the front line of society, where light meets darkness and love meets pain. ’ Tony Pullin, Making Disciples: How did Jesus do it? Farnham: CWR, 2014, 141.
