Agenda: Please review and SIGN the agenda each night. The agenda will include homework, parent/teacher correspondence, discipline, and upcoming events. Please keep the agenda in the binder. Breakfast: Breakfast is served in the lunchroom from 7: 10 -7: 30. Please arrive to school early if your child will be eating breakfast. Students arriving on a bus will be allowed breakfast regardless of time. Celebrations: Please do not send in treats from home to celebrate your child’s birthday. You may share this special day with your child’s class by purchasing an ice-cream for each child through the cafeteria. Icecream is $0. 75 each.
Medical: Do not send medicine without a note. They must be in a labeled bottle. A medical form must also be filled out to keep in the clinic. Clinic hours 8: 00 -2: 00 Responsibility: Help promote our procedures and completing homework! Snack: Your child can bring a healthy, easy to eat snack each day and water. Due to peanut allergies, please be respectful when picking a snack! Tardies: School starts at 7: 40 AM. Any student coming in the room after the bell will be marked tardy, except for students on the occasional late bus. Please do everything possible for them to be at school on time.
§ Any visits after the school bell will require being buzzed into the building by the front office staff. Be prepared to show your id. Please wear your Visitor sticker at all times. § This new procedure is to ensure the safety of all staff and students in the building.
A note is required for a change in dismissal. Please access the dismissal change form from the school website. All changes must go through the office by 1: 00. The school will not accept dismissal changes through email or over the phone. Contact the office for further questions or concerns on this matter.
§ The media center will be open this year on Thursdays until 7: 00 starting and continuing through April. § Your child will be able to check out books, take AR tests, use the library computers, and receive some extra help!
§ Binder: This needs to go to and from school everyday. It includes their agenda, homework, graded work and any important mail from school. Please leave the agenda in their binder. Please review the agenda and initial your child’s agenda each night. § Be mindful of the “Left at Home” and “Bring Right Back” sides of the folder.

Continuous Achievement § Fulton County and Northwood’s goal is to provide every child with what he/she needs academically. § Each child will have support and challenge when needed. Teachers will differentiate instruction and make adjustments throughout the year. § Teachers will work together as a team looking at student assessments and work samples to make the most appropriate educational decisions. Students will be placed in groups which may be flexible based on your child’s needs. § Our goal is to provide EVERY child with the most appropriate education. Working as a team, we know your child will have a successful year!

§ Through the generosity of our Foundation and Boosterthon Funds, we were able to purchase Words Their Way for Language Studies this year. § Language Studies will now include individualized spelling lists and the grammar standard for the week. § Language Studies will be sent home each Friday. § Language Studies HW will be checked daily and collected on Thursday § Language Studies quizzes will be given on Thursdays. l After three or four quizzes, students will be a given Unit Test.
§ Mini Lesson - on writer’s process, qualities of good writing, procedures, and editing § Writing Time – students engage in the “doing” of writing where they make mistakes, try new ideas, are coached with miniconferences, and revise § Share Time – students meet together to celebrate their writing and offer help and insight to one another/ “WISHES and WOWS” § Publishing – students create their final copy Forms of writing include: Narrative, Persuasive, Informational, Reader’s Response
Textbooks § 2 Reading, Science, and Social Studies have been bar-coded and checked out to your child. § Your child is responsible for the books checked out to him/her. § Know that it is your child’s responsibility to keep up with their books. You will be responsible for any misplaced books.
