Lithuania Nida TYPE OF SITE PHYSICAL AND AESTHETIC FEATURES Naturalistic/architectural It’s a resort town. Located on the Curonian Spit between the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. AREA COVERED It covers 7 km². DATING First mentioned in 1385 by Teutonic Knights. HISTORICAL/SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC INFORMATION In 1709 nearly all of the population died from a bubonic plague epidemic. It became part of the German Empire upon the German unification of 1871.

You can pay it on the 10 th kilometer of a road Smiltynė Nida, at Alksnynė control post or Nida control post FACILITIES Nida is a small resort town. There is a lot of cafes, hotels, souvenirs shops, museums, pedestrian paths. Nida is surrounded by beautiful sand dunes and unique nature.

Lithuania Nida’s sand dune Parnidis TYPE OF SITE It is a part of the Great Dune Ridge. DATING Massive deforestation in the 16 th century triggered dune formation HISTORICAL/SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC INFORMATION It is one of the most impressive parts of the Curonian Spit terrain, which had overcame the old dunes, swallowed forests and settlements. With the natural barrier of trees gone, the dunes started shifting from the seaside toward the lagoon. PHYSICAL AND AESTHETIC FEATURES Dune is in the Curonian Spit National Park.

Lithuania Nida‘s sundial TYPE OF SITE A calendar, designed on the basis of the science of the sundial design. DATING Was built on Parnidis Dune in 1995. HISTORICAL/SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC INFORMATION Sundial is 53 m above sea level. This is an ideal place for this kind of sundial. It is possible to observe the Sun rising from the Lagoon and setting into the sea. The obelisk of the sundial, which height is 12 m, was broken down by hurricane Anatoliy in 1999. And was rebuilt in 2011.

HISTORICAL/SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC INFORMATION The Avenue of Stars was opened in the centre of Nida to immortalise the famous Lithuanian music festival “Ben, let‘s sail to Nida!”, its prize winners and the author and organiser of the festival, Arūnas Valinskas. The first festival was held in 1994. At the moment, there are 11 hand imprints in the avenue, of Arūnas Valinskas, Veronika Povilionienė, Česlovas Gabalis, Rosita Čivilytė, Vytautas Kernagis, Stasys Povilaitis, Ovidijus Vyšniauskas, Gytis Paškevičius, Andrius Mamontovas, band “Studija”, and Marijus Mikutavičius.
