Duties and Responsibilities • Touch and touch in goal • On field advice – 10 metres, decisions, etc, via communication system or verbally to the referee and players • General game related observations, structured half time information • Reporting foul play • Mark where try was scored • Judging kicks at goal • Be a part of the match officials team at all times • To fill in appropriate forms and reports

Positioning • Being in the best position to make the correct call in different aspects of play

Positioning Kick off – both deep – one TJ on the dead ball line, other TJ on the goal line (flag) (unless conditions dictate otherwise) TJ 1 Kick Off TJ 2

Positioning Tries– 1 metre short of the goal line (TJ is saying he has input to give the referee) TJ 1

Positioning When the try has been awarded the try must be marked by the TJ on the goal line, parallel to the touch line and in line where the ball was grounded the other TJ taking his position behind the posts to judge the kick at goal TJ 1 The ball can be placed anywhere in line with the TJ when kicking for goal

Positioning Penalties – (Kick to touch) Nearest side TJ 20 m up field (anticipating the kick), far side TJ marks the ten. When the ball enters touch the TJ must TJ 1 mark where the ball crossed the touch line Direction of play Penalty mark TJ 2

Positioning Kicks in general play – Nearside TJ to monitor the kicker and then go with play – Far side TJ to follow the ball and monitor TJ 1 TJ 2

Movement • Looking in field • Get to next play position (refer to play of the ball session planners or re start session planner) • Alert and sharp
