Tornado Strength F 1 Tornado and Damage � F 1 Tornado: Wind speeds from 86 to 110 mph. Peels surface off roofs; mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned; moving autos blown off roads.
Tornado Strength F 2 Tornado and Damage � F 2 Tornado: Wind speed is between 111 -135 mph. Roofs are torn off frame houses; mobile homes can be demolished; large trees snapped or uprooted; light-weight objects become missiles; cars lifted off ground.
Tornado Strength F 3 Tornado and Damage � F 3 Tornado: Wind speeds reach between 136 -165 mph. Roofs and walls are torn off wellbuilt houses; trains can be overturned; most trees uprooted; heavy cars lifted off the ground and thrown as missiles.
Tornado Strength F 4 Tornado and Damage � F 4 Tornado: Wind speeds from 166 -200 mph. A well-constructed house is leveled; buildings or other structures with weak foundations blown some distance away; cars are picked up and thrown making them large missiles.
Tornado Strength F 5 Tornado and Damage � F 5 Tornado: Winds reach over 200 mph. Total devastation of homes and structures. Trees are debarked. Pavement removed from highways. Unless underground or in safe room, loss of life.
