TOPMODEL Venkatesh Merwade
Overview Ú Little Background Ú Some changes previous plans Ú Data Ú Methodology Ú Results Ú Conclusions
Background ÚDevelopment Ú Physically Based Model Ú Important Components – Soil Water Balance – Topographic Index
Change in Plan Ú Size of the catchment – 325 miles 2 to 3 Km 2 !! – DTM Analysis Ú Objective – Calibration – Effect of Grid Size – Change in Slope
Data Ú Discharge (on the web) Ú Rainfall (on the web) Ú DEM (Victoria Samuels) Ú Potential Evapotranspiration (? ) Ú Temperature (max, min, average) – Penman Monteith (? ? ) – Empirical (Hargreaves, 4. 2. 44 & 4. 4. 4)
Methodology Ú Run DTM and TOPMODEL and get myself familiar. Ú Errors one, two, three. Ú Calibration with original data. Ú Have fun with different grid size. Ú Have fun with different slopes.

Conclusions Ú Easy to calibrate (need to be careful with the text files). Ú Insensitive to two parameters (SRint and Chvel). Ú Grid size has some effect but not very significant. Ú Slope has very little effect on the overall performance of the model. Ú The show will continue……….
