Topic (iv) Using metadata and paradata to analyse the efficiency of editing processes Session organizers: Philippe Brion, Rudi Seljak
Metadata and paradata ? ? • Metadata (OECD glossary of statistical terms): Metadata is data that defines and describes other data – Reference metadata: Metadata describing the contents and the quality of the statistical data. Including: concepts, "methodological" metadata, quality metadata – Structural metadata refers to metadata that act as identifiers and descriptors of the data. Including: names of columns, dimensions, statistical cubes • Paradata: Automatically generated process data. Including: audit trails, contact histories – GSIM: – information about decisions and choices made, and about data sets and other information produced and passed amongst processes
Metadata and paradata and editing • Metadata and paradata in the statistical editing process are becoming more and more important with the advanced methods and automated applications. • Used especially as: – Source of information for analysing of the adequacy and efficiency and the process – Tool for detection of the weak points in the process – Continuous improvement of the editing process
Papers • Four papers, each of them exploring different aspect of usage of data and metadata • Two long papers – France – Finland • Two short papers: – Canada – Sweden
