Topic Horizontal Venturi Meter OBJECTIVES At the end
Topic : Horizontal Venturi Meter
OBJECTIVES At the end of the session, student should be able to : 1. Sketch, label and describe fluid motion mechanism in the horizontal venturi meter. 2. List 5 advantages of horizontal venturi meter. 3. The application of venturi meter in industries.
VENTURI HORIZONTAL METER - a device used for measuring the rate of flow Converging Cone 21 o Entry 1 A 1 V 1 P 1 Throat =x Exit 2 A 2 V 2 P 2 Diverging Angle 5 -7 o
MECHANISM OF VENTURI METER The Fluid is accelerated through a converging cone of angle 21 o. Pressure are taken at the entrance and the throat. The angle of diverging cone is 5 – 7 o to ensure the minimum loss of energy. For continuity of flow V 1< V 2 but P 1> P 2.
ADVANTAGES OF VENTURI METER The pressure recovery is much better than for the orifice plate. Suitable for clean, dirty and viscous liquid. Pressure loss is low. Viscosity effect is high. Relative cost is medium.
VENTURI METER IN INDUSTRY • Intake System in Engine Intake System is the Modular Venturi Tube which is found inside the intake. The removable MVT assures correct air/fuel ratios at all rpm ranges. - It is also removable for additional air flow capabilities with customer-provided custom electronic tunin.
Cont…VENTURI METER IN INDUSTRY Venturi Injector (Air & water treatment) A venturi can be used to mix a fluid with air. At the end of the system, a mixture of fluid and air will appear. The simplest apparatus, as shown in the diagram, is a tubular setup known as a Venturi tube or simply a venturi. Fluid flows through a length of pipe of varying diameter.
APPLICATION IN INDUSTRY - Flowmeter in pipelines
SELF ASSESSMENT– Label the important part of venturi meter? 2 Converging Cone 15 -20 o 1 Entry =x 3 Throat Diverging Angle 5 -7 o 4 Exit 5
