WB: The Roman Empire was HUGE! How might this have led to problems?
Empire is Divided: By AD 285 the Roman Empire was too large to manage. This problem was solved when Emperor Diocletian divided the Empire into the Western Empire and Eastern Empire. Each half was ruled by its own emperor.
Emperor Constantine became emperor in A. D. 306 Dreamed/had a vision of a cross in the sky before a battle Promised that if he won, he'd become a Christian Constantine won and then made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire.
Draw a scene of Constantine on the battlefield with the cross in the sky and then below it explain how this changed life in ancient Rome.
Constantine would spread tolerance for Christians to both sides of the Empire. Eventually, however he consolidated power, bringing both empires under his control.
Was Christianity a reason for the Fall of Rome? Christianity is often considered a reason for the fall of Rome because money was spent on churches as the empire converted to Christianity. The people were not as war like as they strived to follow the ten commandments. Christianity also challenged the hierarchy of the classes and rulers. People no longer worshipped the emperors as gods.
