Reading an inscription 3 March 2011 Tools for Provenance – Merton College 19
My reading of the inscription is "Ex dono reuerendissimi d[o]m[ini] Magistri henrici de s[an]cto claro episcopi rossensis", with the translation "The gift of the most reverend lord master Henricus de Sancto Claro, bishop of Ross". My reading is Rossensis, not Roffensis. There is a Henry Sinclair who was bishop of Ross between 1558 and 1565. 3 March 2011 Tools for Provenance – Merton College 20
