Tonga Water Purification Project • Introduction – Access to clean drinking water is a major challenge to most developing nations and according to UNICEF, every day, worldwide 4, 500 children die because they lack access to clean water – GNF and its Kenyan partner organisation OSIENALA (Friends of Lake Victoria) have constructed a drinking water treatment plant to the 1, 000 boys and girls of Tonga Secondary School Friday, September 25, 2020 2

World of Germany – Transport by Lufthansa & financial grant from Ursula Merz foundation – It was installed as a model/demonstration drinking water treatment plant from January 2009, the equipment supplies clean water for two schools with a total of 1, 000 pupils (Tonga Girls Secondary School and Tonga Boys Secondary School). The equipment comprises a pump unit as well as an additional storage tank in which the water is conserved by use of Silver. San technology. – The water is filtered, sterilized and thanks silver ions added to the water conserved for the long term. – Then the purified water is being pumped into a closed tank, thus avoiding bacterial growth.
