What is tone? The attitude of a writer towards a subject or an audience.

What is tone? The attitude of a writer towards a subject or an audience. • Tone is similar to tone of voice. • You can't hear the narrator, so you have to infer the tone from his or her words.

This poem conveys different ideas the narrator thinks could happen to him/her. Each of the examples provided are what we perceive as bad, or scary. For example: “Whatif I get sick and die? ” These are two things that we fear in life. The speakers tone could be perceived as fearful or afraid.
