Read and think What is a haiku? 俳句 • A haiku is a form of poetry • It is Japanese • Began in 17 th century but not called haiku until 19 th century • A haiku has 3 lines o First line has 5 syllables o Second line has 7 syllables o Third line has 5 syllables • It has 17 syllables in total Task: Can you think of four more words with different numbers of syllables? Try to think of words related to sport! Syllables are the ‘beats’ of spoken language Pa-ra-lym-pic = 4 Bri-tain = 2 Ja-pa-nese = 3 Sport = 1

It is my own work – I have not copied it from a book or someone else. My haiku is about Tokyo 2020 (the host city, the Games, the Values OR Team GB and Paralympics. GB). My spellings are correct. It follows the haiku form: 3 lines with 5 -7 -5 syllables. I have filled in all the boxes on the entry sheet for my name, age and school/address details. My handwriting or presentation is neat.
