What is TOK? • One of the compulsory core elements in the IB Diploma Programme besides Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS)

What is TOK? • Course about critical thinking • Encourages students to: – think about the nature of knowledge – to reflect the process of learning in all subjects and to make connections across them

What is TOK? • Curriculum overview – Knowing about knowing – The ways of knowing – The areas of knowledge

What is TOK? • Guides students to become embodiments of IB Learner Profile

TOK lessons • Lessons are held by TOK teachers alone and in collaboration with other IB subject teachers

TOK essay • Essay on a prescribed title from a list of six titles • Maximum length for the essay is 1600 words • Planning and progress form (TK/PPF) for each student (Manage. Bac) • Externally assessed by the IBO

TOK presentation • One presentation to the class by an individual or a group (max three persons) • Approximately 10 minutes of presentation time per student • Presentation planning document (TK/PPD) for each student (Manage. Bac) • Internally assessed by the school’s TOK teachers

TOK assessment • TOK essay 0– 10 marks – Points are doubled • TOK presentation 0– 10 marks • TOK essay weights 67% and TOK presentation 33% in the assessment

Schedules • IB 1 YEAR – 1 st period: TOK 1 PRACTICE PRESENTATION – 2 nd to 5 th period: TOK 2 FINAL PRESENTATION + PRACTISING WITH THE ESSAY • IB 2 YEAR – 2 nd period: TOK 3 – 3 rd period: TOK 4 FINAL ESSAY
